iBurmecia

In Burmecia, the only normal thing is the ever-present rain pouring down. Freya vows to avenge her people. The group heads in and are immediately attacked by Thorn and Zorn. After an easy battle, they continue on, even as Freya's hearts falls to misery at seeing her hometown in shambles. When they reach the royal castle, she doesn't think she can go on — but Zidane insists, and Vivi, too, wants to go:

quote Vivi § ...I wanna find out who those guys were...and why I look like them. quote

The party presses on and comes across a storage room of weaponry, and Freya selects a spear. Zidane, not exactly watching his words, comments about how they can beat up the black mages with ease now. Vivi crouches, upset, and though Zidane apologises and he knows that the monkey boy hadn't been referring to him, he still can't help but be affected.

When they reach the castle, only Freya and Zidane can scale its walls. Vivi and Quina find another route through the castle, arriving just in time to face off against Queen Brahne's notorious general, Beatrix. She easily defeats the party. Barely conscious, Freya looks on as Queen Brahne, Beatrix, and a mysterious white-haired character take leave of fallen Burmecia.

A while later, the party revives from the fight. Freya decides she must set out to Cleyra, another settlement of her people. Zidane and Vivi agree to come as well, Vivi wondering if he might find out more about the black mages there. A sandstorm surrounds the city, and after navigating it, the party enters Cleyra.

Don't hate me As Vivi walks the streets of Cleyra, children and adults alike call him a demon and back away frightened when he approaches.

I-I haven't hurt anyone! Vivi is chased by few Burmecians into the local inn, they claiming he killed their fellows and calling him a bastard. A Cleyran Oracle appears, placating the Burmecians, and Vivi insists he didn't hurt anyone.

Just then, a Burmecian runs up to Zidane and tells him a child is being attacked by one of the typically docile antlions. Zidane runs for the sand pits beside Cleyra, and finds Freya and Vivi already there. The boy, none other than Vivi's erstwhile friend Puck, is caught in one of the antlion's claws. Freya calls out to Puck, naming him a prince, of all things. The antlion throws the boy over, but not a split second later, it attacks. The party is forced to put it down.

After the battle, Freya asks Puck to come with her to see his father, but he's not for it. Before running off, he tells Vivi to take care. But Vivi has something to say to Puck, and runs after him. After searching for a while, Vivi must admit he's lost the sneaky rat, and heads back to meet with his friends.

After speaking with the Cleyran king, Freya is worried the city is under attack. The group heads back down through the sandstorm, and to no one's surprise, finds themselves fighting Alexandrian soldiers along the way. Halfway down, Puck runs into them, warning that Cleyra is under attack.

quote Puck § C'mon, you deadweights! Hustle! quote

Vivi and the others hurry back to the city to find it under black mage attack. They rush the survivors to the cathedral on the hill, but when they get there, they're surrounded. Then, a mysterious Burmecian appears and quickly makes nothing of the black mages. The group hurries into the cathedral. There, the stranger is revealed to be Fratley, the lost love of Freya, though he's lost his memory.

Puck arrives and explains that he found Fratley on his journeys. All Fratley could remember was once being a Dragon Knight, like Freya. Both Puck and Fratley zoom off, Puck running into Vivi and not stopping for either him or his father when they call to him.

Vivi approaches Freya and notices she's crying. Gathering herself, Freya states she happy if only Fratley is alive and well, and will focus on saving the city. But as her words are said, Beatrix arrives and steals the special crystal from the harp that had kept the sandstorm going. The group heads after her and engages her in battle, and like last time, they're wiped clean.

Beatrix leaves using the magic portal created by one of the black mages. Zidane leaps in after her, as does Freya, but not before saying to Vivi:

quote Freya § Come, Vivi, show us your courage! quote

Vivi is frightened, but the last black mage leaves, he jumps in after it. The three arrive on Brahne's ship, just in time to watch the queen summon Odin, who quickly decimates Cleyra. Vivi shakes his head in misery, thinking of Puck and the others gone...but he knows Freya is suffering far worse than he is.

Suddenly, Beatrix appears on the top deck, and they overhear her cursing the queen for using her, and wondering if Steiner was right all along about her lack of freedom and will. The group hustle after her when she walks off deck, and overhear Queen Brahne say she will kill Garnet for thievery when they return to Alexandria. Zidane flips his lid, but Freya holds him back, and Vivi has a plan...

Smart Vivi assures their safety for the rest of the trip by having them hide in barrels. Some time later, they're transported into the nether regions of the Alexandrian dungeons and meet up with Steiner. The group races against time through the castle, hoping to find Garnet before Brahne arrives. In the basement, they must fight through Thorn and Zorn to reach her.

Garnet is unconscious but breathing. While Steiner whines on about his failings as a knight, Zidane scoops her up and calls for everyone to rush out of there. When they reach Brahne's room, Zidane asks the party to let her rest. Zidane is remorseful, and Vivi fears Garnet won't ever wake up...But before long, Thorn and Zorn arrive, having lead Beatrix to them.

Beatrix defeats them once again. Even so, Zidane forces her to acknowledge what Brahne has done to Garnet, and to recall her duty to the kingdom and its princess. Beatrix realises the reality of her situation. Brahne arrives just then, ordering Garnet to be thrown in the dungeon. Beatrix and Freya both take a stand against her while the others escape.

quote Steiner § Zidane, Master Vivi, I'm counting on you. quote

Steiner leaves the group to return and fight with Beatrix and Freya, humbly requesting Zidane's services in helping the princess escape, and safely. Vivi, Garnet and Zidane head out through the Gargant ride, battling a snake monster along the way, and eventually they are chased past the Treno exit and out into the bright whiteness of the open sky.
