Lindblum
When they land at Lindblum's port, Steiner and Vivi are amazed at the size of the place. The guards approach, and when Dagger claims to be the princess of Alexandria, they don't believe her, what with her shabby company and the even shabbier aircraft they came upon. However, her uncle comes by and leads the group to the Gerent of Lindblum's office, where they discover he's been turned into an oglop!
As Dagger talks with him privately, Vivi and Zidane head to the inn. They rest for a while, and then Vivi decides to take a look around the town, on his own. Zidane isn't completely okay with it, but let's him go.
Vivi's Shopping Vivi's gone shopping in the huge city of Lindblum, and eventually comes to an interesting food shop. There he finds a lovely smelling nut, and decided to buy it. When he brings it to the cashier, she asks him if he's friends with moogles, because the nut he's chosen is a Kupo Nut, moogles' favourite food. The cashier ends up giving it to him for free. He asks about the Festival of the Hunt he read on a sign in the shop, and when the cashier answers "animals" he gets really excited and zooms out. But then she realises she'd said "animals" instead of "savage beasts"....
Vivi wanders about town some more, eventually coming across two children playing with an army of 'Royal Action Figures'. When they run off, he bends down for a closer peek. Thoughts of the black mage dolls fill his head as he looks at the toys, and he realises that they'd looked like they were being controlled by someone...
Later, the entire group is waiting in Garnet's bedroom for Zidane to show up. When he does, one of the Hunt coordinators informs Vivi that he's been signed up to participate as well. Zidane admits he did the deed, but tells Vivi he'll do great with his black magic. Vivi isn't too sure, so Zidane tells him that if he wins, he'll hook him up on a date with the princess. Shocked, Vivi all but shouts it out, putting Steiner into a tizzy. When the coordinator asks Vivi what he'll take for a prize, he tells him he'll take a card.
Steiner § MASTER VIVI!!! THE PRINCESS AND I ARE ROOTING FOR YOU!!!
Although he gets off to an uneasy start, with Garnet and Steiner cheering him on enthusiastically, Vivi gains the upper hand in his area. Zidane ends up bringing the most points home, and in Cid's thrown-room is crowned Master Hunter. Just then, a Burmecian soldier enters with news of an attack lead by an unknown army of steeple-crowned hat warriors. When Freya, a Burmecian as well, decides to return to her homeland to investigate, Vivi asks:
Vivi § Um, c-can I come, too? I wanna find out who they really are.
Garnet wants to go too, knowing that her mother is likely behind it, but Zidane's not for that. Before an argument can come about, the Gerent notes they must take haste. He agrees to open the Dragon's Gate, but before they set out, they have a lovely dinner. Unbeknownst to everyone, Dagger's put a sleeping herb in everyone's plate but her own and Steiner's. Vivi is the first to drop, and after everyone follows suit, she explains her views about the impending war to Steiner and asks his assistance. Hesitantly, he agrees to help her.
When Vivi and the others awaken, they realise what Dagger's done, and head out to Burmecia after her. On the way, the stop at Qu's Marsh, and Vivi is surprised to find that the Qu's look exactly like his grandpa did. He decides to go ask the head Qu if it knew his grandpa Quan. The Qu reacts badly, insisting in a bellow that it didn't know Quan. But it admits Quan was from it's tribe. Vivi leaves unsatisfied.
When the party reaches Gizamaluke's Grotto, they find it overrun with black mages. Dead Burmecians scatter the area. As they go deeper into the grotto, Thorn and Zorn attack by way of a couple of black mages. They run when the mages are defeated.
The group explores the grotto, eventually coming upon a poor moogle whose husband has been trapped underneath a fallen bell. She smells the Kupo Nut on Vivi, and he gives it to her. She brings it over to the bell, and the smell of it fills the trapped moogle with such vigor, he's able to throw the bell off of himself and escape.
As they go deeper into the cave, Gizamaluke itself attacks! Following a tough battle, the group hurries onward to Burmecia.
