Volume 5

Mizuki dreams of a plant pot falling on her, with Kujou Itsuki looking on from above. Startled, she awakens and also awakens Sano in the process, who invites her to sleep with him for the night to calm her. Mizuki agrees, but doesn't get much sleep that night. The next day many of the students dress in drag for preparation for the beauty contest. The first event is a Mystery Theatre production, directed by Nanba. While this is going on, Mizuki searches out Sano, who's working as a server for Dorm two's shop but being constantly pestered for his photograph. Mizuki gets jealous when a female fan gets clingy, and she tugs him away, returning Sano's moodiness of the previous day with her own. While she's distracted, a vampiric Himejima shows up and steals the show, taking Dorm two's costumers away to his Haunted House.

An irritated and cross-dressed Nakatsu walks through the hallways, coming across a suspicious scene where a student from Dorm one is being told to "do whatever it takes"...but while he's eavesdropping, Dorm one's Kujou comes along (and, er, gropes Nakatsu's leg), and Nakatsu warns him that he'll not be able to hurt Mizuki. After stomping off, he immediately warns Sano, and the two decide to search for Mizuki.

The beauty ccntest starts! While the votes are tallied, Dorm one's contender, Kadoma, asks Mizuki to come talk with him somewhere else... as they walk, he tells Mizuki of how he's ashamed at his feminine appearance, particularly because of his very masculine name. He explains he was inspired after watching Kujou in karate class, and Mizuki confesses she's felt the same way about someone else. But then Dorm one students show up and capture Mizuki.

Meanwhile, Sano Nakatsu and even Nakao are searching for Mizuki. Nakao, separated from the other two, come across a struggling Mizuki...enraged, he attempts to beat the crap outta them, but ends up captured himself. While this is happening, Sano and Nakatsu come across the suspicious Kujou, claiming him to be the perpetrator behind Mizuki's disappearance. But Kadoma appears, denying Kujou's involvement and leading Sano and Nakatsu to where Mizuki's being held. It appears they come just in the nick of time, as Mizuki was about to be striped of her clothes for blackmail photographs! Almost unable to contain his relief, Sano almost kisses Mizuki...and this time she knows exactly what he was about to do. Sano realises just how much he wants Mizuki with him, but still keeps it to himself.

As Nanba and Kujou dish out punishment to Dorm one's students, the relay match is about to start...but Nakatsu injured his ankle in the fight to rescue Mizuki and can't compete. Nanba takes his place, and the race begins...with Dorm two emerging as victors! (Himejima faints at the results...hehe). Behind the celebrations, Nanba and Umeda discuss the awesome prize...school supplies...!

Later, Dorm one reveals their self-induced punishment: they've shaved their heads (everyone thinks they went too far...). Otherwise, life continues on as normal. Sano is wrapped up in his internal admission of his wanting Mizuki...Mizuki's having female issues, and goes to see Umeda - coming across a very suggestive but very much innocent scene between Umeda and Kujou, who's getting his back worked out (chiropracty). Kujou talks about karate...

Later, Mizuki watches Sano practice. After practicing, she's startled by a grasshopper and leaps onto Sano, not realising how intimate she's being...Nakatsu watches with jealousy! He finds himself, as the day goes by, more and more concerned with his feelings for Mizuki and Mizuki and Sano's relationship. The others notice, but aren't sure what to do.

During a soccar game, Nakatsu finds himself completely distracted by Mizuki in the crowd, and the team ends up losing by one point. Afterwards, however, a female fan approaches him and professes she likes him...Nakatsu has a girlfriend! Still, Nakatsu can't help thinking about Mizuki...

A reporter, Kinu-chan, comes by to interogate Sano. She zooms in on Mizuki, deluging her with questions, eventually forcing Sano to agree to an interview, just to get her to leave Mizuki alone. While Sano's distracted, Kinu talks to Mizuki alone, revealing her identity as the writer for all of the articles written about Sano that Mizuki's collected! Eventually Mizuki and Sano go off, but not before Kinu notices how close they are...

Meanwhile, Nakatsu is still conflicted about his feelings for Mizuki. Images of Mizuki keep flashing through his head. He comes across a sleeping Mizuki, and finds his heart beating faster. Unable to help himself, he leans in for a kiss...

Extra Chapter

A younger Mizuki, in America, is being bullied by girls at her school and decides to run away. She ends up at a kind elderly lady's home, who informs her she was rescued by her grandson, a delinquent boy named Gil. Gil soon comes around, and right off Mizuki and he get along terribly, fighting constantly and always at ends with each other. Gil teases her for being a "girl" rather than a "woman". But after helping him in a fight, Mizuki wins Gil over and they become uneasy friends. He tells her he dreams of being a mountain climber...and later his grandmother tells Mizuki his dreams can never be, because he has a hole in his lung and is unwilling to go through dangerous surgery to correct it.

Gil and Mizuki talk about how her parents must be missing her, and Mizuki becomes a little upset...and Gil gives her a kiss, promising when she becomes a "woman" he'll give her a real kiss. The next day, Gil's grandmother contacts Mizuki's brother and he comes for her. But as she's riding away, Gil runs after the truck, nearly passing out with the strain on his lungs. He tells her he's decided to do the surgery.

As Mizuki tells the story to her dorm mates, she takes out a postcard from Gil, a picture with him at the top of Mount Everest.
