The series starts out with its protagonist, Ashiya Mizuki, running late for her first day in... an all boys school? Dressed as a boy,
Mizuki has enrolled in an all boys school to meet her one and only idol, teen high jumping legend Sano Izumi. By chance, the first
person she "meets" (read: bumps into, and I do mean literally) is none other than Sano!
Although her first few attempts at befriending him - or even speaking to him - go poorly, Mizuki doesn't give up. She's travelled all the way from America to Japan to meet her idol, and nothing's going to stop her, not even her idol himself!
Mizuki's first friend turns out to be a slightly hyperactive and somewhat flambouyant studen named Nakatsu Shuichi. Following him is the school's "mascot" dog, Yuujirou, who is known only to take a liking to girls... Thankfully Mizuki's true gender isn't discovered, but she begins to realise just how precarious her position as a male student is...
Mizuki then finds out Sano's quit high jumping! Shocked, Mizuki literally tries to shake the reason out of Sano, but Sano keeps his reasons guarded.
While being taken on a tour of the school by the school's flirtatious and notorious playboy dorm leader, Nanba Minami, Mizuki realises that she's unwittingly become a contendor for the school's top bishounen (pretty boy) title. A close run-in with the current school idol, Nakao Senri, leaves Mizuki feeling even more worried.
Mizuki eventually finds Sano sleeping in the school yard. Deciding to wait for him to wake up, Mizuki takes a seat next to him...until
Yuujirou the dog knocks Sano into her, putting them into a suggestive position. After Mizuki explains, Sano calls her a "weird guy", then
blushes deeply (cute moment!) after she informs him that he fell into her.
Later, Nakatsu challenges Mizuki to a one-on-one soccar match. Knowing she must prove her manliness, Mizuki agrees. But during the match, Nakatsu accidently knocks her out. As Nakatsu runs to alert the doctor, Sano picks Mizuki up to take her to the office. Holding her about the middle, Sano discovers Mizuki's secret...that "he" is female! Not knowing what to make of it, Sano keeps the secret to himself.
To make matters worse, after examining Mizuki for injury, the doctor, Umeda Hokuto, also finds out Mizuki's secret. Unlike Sano, he confronts her, and she spills the beans about her wishing to meet Sano, her idol.
In the meantime, Nakatsu, much to his horror, finds himself attracted to the new pretty boy student... Similarly, Mizuki is finding
herself attracted to her idol, Sano, and even eavesdrops on a conversation between him and a suspicious female student while pretending
to walk Yuujirou. Thanks to her faithful companion, she's discovered, and finds out that the female student was Sano's manager. Finally
alone, Mizuki asks Sano why he quit high jumping, and is surprised when he goes so far as to say he hates high jumping. But later,
Mizuki catches Sano watching the high jumpers, and realises Sano wasn't exactly truthful about his feelings about high jumping...
After a few close encounters - including Nakatsu almost kissing Mizuki (though being in denial about his wanting it!) and Sano seeing Mizuki in the shower - things begin to heat up between the three. The only one who's honest about thier feelings is Mizuki: Sano and Nakatsu are both in denial, for their own reasons, of their attraction for Mizuki.
Thinking she's the cause of Sano's distraction (and being perfectly right about it, although not for the reason she thinks...),
Sano's ex-manager orders Mizuki to stop distracting Sano. Instead of becoming upset, Mizuki calmly tells her that she understands
Sano's position. Yamashina Rika, Sano's ex-manager, freaks out at Mizuki and is about to hit her, when Sano steps in and tells her off.
Mizuki leaves with Sano, watching Yamashina in tears, and decides to tell Sano just what a jerk he was. They leave on bad terms.
With all the bad things happening, and after recieving a parcel from home with gifts from her best friend, an American named Julia, and her brother, Mizuki begins to feel a homesick and question her staying in Japan. But, after reading a letter from Julia filled with encouragement, Mizuki's confidence returns, and she decides to make things right between her and Sano. Her efforts end in vain, leaving her in tears and facing a conflicted Nakatsu, who wants to comfort her with a hug but won't dare, fearing his feelings will show through.
Nakatsu confronts Sano about the way he's treating Mizuki, and the resulting conflict makes him come to terms with his feelings,
recognising finally that he's attracted to Mizuki, even if it means him being gay. But Sano's distracted after seeing Mizuki talking
with Nanba in the courtyard - has Nanba discovered Mizuki's a girl? Worried for her safety, Sano runs away from Nakatsu after
Nanba and Mizuki, thoughts of her being ravaged by the playboy running through his head... Turns out they were just having coffee!
After Nanba leaves, Sano tells Mizuki why he quit high jumping: that he couldn't handle the pressure. He tells Mizuki he doesn't
hate her, and that he's not going to lose anymore, that he'll try high jumping again. Brought to tears, Mizuki finds herself embraced
by Sano.
Then the first bell rings...and life goes on!
